Lina Marc and Savannah Strenz are both from Montclair, NJ. Marc has studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Tufts in Boston, the School of Visual Arts, in NYC, and is currently completing her BFA at SUNY Purchase College. Strenz studied at San Fransisco Art Institute and is currently living and working in NYC.
Married in the Windows is an entirely collaborative effort between Savannah Strenz and Lina Marc. All work being shown was created specifically for this exhibition as a survey of the artists’ similar interests and an exploration of the space at which these interests overlap. Drawing on numerous inspirations including costumes, set design, and mid-century cult classic films, Marc and Strenz create a body of work that compares, contrasts, and unifies these different visual elements. The work intends to fully marry those components that are already similar, and fuse together those that differ. This is achieved with the creation of layers. The layering could be the physical overlapping of lines, the combination of different media, the reflection of one painting onto another, or the paintings within paintings, the “windows”. There are also layers in the process of making these pieces. Several works were started by one artist and completed by the other, so as to represent not only both Marc’s and Strenz’s ideas within a piece, but both their hands as well.
