DIVIDING THE DIAGONAL
OPENING RECEPTION FOR BONNIE MARANZ
Ancient mathematicians understood the dynamic of the diagonal. Diverging from the horizontal and the vertical, the diagonal becomes an inclination toward both directions at one and the same time. The diagonal is the fastest pathway to ascending and descending space.
As a painter, I am interested in exploring space on my canvas. I want two-dimensional surfaces, colors and the forms to suggest expansion and contraction. Introversion and sublimation play a subtle role. Membranes of color and diagonal movement encourage the viewer to be part of my journey. I want my energy to infuse the artwork and have an affect on the viewer.
Ultimately, I want my energy to continue after I stop painting and the brushes are put away.
