I stand at the Edge--eyes open or shut. It rivets my attention. A precarious place. Where opposites turn inside and outside and coexist. Where potential begins. I don’t want to leave.
This state-of-mind becomes a Painting.
In Ancient Times Egyptian artists incorporated a horizon line into their wall paintings. A necessary grounding for their figures. This horizon line, this Edge, created a shallow third dimension. A place to follow the action.
Now a paramount element in my paintings as well, e edge dominates my focus and radar. It allows for space and time to become part of my subject matter. My work is breaking into modules. These modules however do not wander far from their source. They need a grounding. The wall now acts as the anchor and backdrop.
This new series of paintings and orientation originated when I travelled to No-Man’s Land, The Dead Sea. Somewhere between Israel and Jordan, the lowest physical place on Earth. A disoriented surround with unbounded awareness. The potential was palpable, but my feet were still firmly on the ground.
Where I go I take this feeling with me.
