GALLERY NIGHT: ANNE HAMMES

  • BASEMEANT WRX 124 Walnut Street Montclair, NJ, 07042 United States

PLEASE JOIN US FOR FRIDAY, 10/30 @ 6PM FOR OUR NEXT GALLERY NIGHT!

LOCAL ARTIST ANNE HAMMES, OWNER AND DESIGNER OF TILIA PRESS, THE BEAUTIFUL LINE OF LETTERPRESS STATIONERY THAT WE CARRY AT THE SHOP, WILL BE EXHIBITING HER PAINTINGS INSPIRED FROM HER SUMMER STUDY OF BUTTERFLIES IN HER GARDEN.

ANNE WAS THRILLED TO WITNESS THE LIFE CYCLE OF THREE GENERATIONS OF MONARCH BUTTERFLIES IN HER HOME GARDEN. SHE LET MILKWEED GROW WILD AS A SAFE HAVEN FOR EGG LAYING AND ADDED BUTTERFLY WEED AND BUTTERFLY BUSH AS NOURISHMENT FOR THE CATERPILLAR AND ADULT STAGES. HER PAINTINGS ARE A WAY TO SHARE HER ENTHUSIASM FOR THESE BEAUTIFUL CREATURES AS WELL AS TO BRING AWARENESS OF HOW WE CAN CREATE A BEAUTIFUL HAVEN FOR THEM TO THRIVE.

LEARN A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST:

A love of art and fashion led artist Anne Hammes to Kent State University where she studied fashion design and illustration and received her BFA in Painting.  Upon graduating, NYC’s fashion industry welcomed her to it’s multiple outlets of creative expression where she’s honed her skills for the past 24 years in technical, graphic and textile print design roles.  These skills, combined with a passion for color, pattern and paper, paved the way for another channel of expression, Tilia Press, her blossoming greeting card company that made its debut in 2009 at the National Stationery Show.  Anne’s cards have a mostly floral/nature theme so it’s no surprise that her recent fascination by this summer’s Monarch butterfly activity in her garden launched a series of studies and paintings of their lifecycle based on her photographs.   Anne’s love of surface pattern design, vintage inspired colors and, of course, the Monarch butterfly can be seen in her collection of paintings at Basemeant Wrx.
